YMCA Day Camp Takes Kids on Virtual Trip Around the World

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Local children took a virtual trip around the world this summer through a new partnership between the Youngstown Business Incubator and the YMCA of Youngstown.

The YMCA of Youngstown Day Camp: Summer Around the World collaboration allowed children age 6 to 13 to embark on virtual journeys to various countries each week. Themes ranged from exploring the streets of Italy to navigating the ancient ruins of Egypt.

Campers had the opportunity to delve into the sights, sounds, cultures, histories and landmarks of various countries around the globe from the comfort of their campsite.

“YBI is proud to partner with the YMCA to provide an extraordinary summer camp experience for the youth in our community,” said Megan Payich, director of youth entrepreneurship at YBI. “Through this innovative approach, we have empowered young minds to expand their horizons, embrace diversity and cultivate a global perspective.

In addition to the VR experience, the camp featured interactive workshops, guest speakers and activities designed to deepen the campers’ understanding of each country.

“Our partnership with YBI has allowed us to offer an unforgettable camp experience that truly brings the world to our campers,” said Nick Gliha, Day Camp director for the YMCA of Youngstown. “By combining our commitment to youth development with the YBI’s expertise in virtual reality, we have created an immersive program that fosters curiosity, global awareness and understanding.”
